KANSAS DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE AWARDS WATER AND SEWER GRANTS

The Kansas Department of Commerce (Commerce) today announced that 24 Kansas communities will share a total of $6,979,777 in federally funded water and sewer grants through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. These Kansas communities will match the CDBG funds with $8,432,838 in other funds. Four communities will also receive a total of $1,446,000 in contingent CDBG funds.

With these grant awards, the CDBG program will assist 26,424 Kansas residents – 15,205 of whom have low and moderate incomes. The recipients of water and sewer grants, and the amounts of their grants, are as follows:

$302,159
With the CDBG funds, the city will construct a third treatment cell. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment will contribute $302,159 to this project.

The McFarland Activities Association is putting up signs at both entrances of our town. They have begun to raise funds for this project, but more are needed before they can begin. Anyone interested in learning more about this project or wishing to make a donation should contact Shelia Nelson at (785) 765-3974 or (785) 765-2360. The new Fire Station has been completed. A dedication, ribbon cutting ceremony, and BBQ along with some local entertainment was held October 18, 2003. It was a wonderful day with a great turnout. On behalf of the McFarland Fire Department, we would like to thank everyone who helped make this day a success and enjoyable for all. We would also like to thank everyone who volunteered their time and labor, and prepared and brought food for the workers. Contact our Fire Chief Terry McDaniel for a tour of this wonderful new addition to our town.
