Imagine Dragons is Not for Babies

Most of the time it’s really comforting to just sit on your car and had that road trip of your life, but it doesn’t go your way when you have babies. If you enjoy Imagine Dragons soundtrack inside your car’s stereo before your little one was born, you have to change your taste now. You may try some nursery rhymes or something else, like the songs repeatedly play on baby channels. Now, the hope of hearing your favorite band is likely bound to happen only in their live concerts. If you want to check the dates check here.

Travelling with a baby is rather difficult especially for mothers all over the world. It can be relatively challenging in preparing to meet the exact need of your baby away from home or on your way to your dream weekend getaway. Even breastfeeding moms had the difficulty on managing their feeding time during travels, it is best if you have prepared jackets or shawls that may be used for private nursing. For bottle fed babies, mothers are advised to bring bottles with premeasured sterilized water to use with the one pack ready to mix milk formula.  Those that are not required to be refrigerated unless opened.

The best thing is try to keep your baby’s food healthy and fresh, don’t go reaching for processed food on the supermarket just to make your travel mealtime easy. You can try feeding your baby with fresh fruits prepared in a lunch box inside your backpack.  You should feed your little one and keep finger foods away avoid choking. Always prepare a baby’s first aid kit in your bag or in your car.

For long travels, taking the journey at night is the best option because the baby is likely asleep when you get to arrive at your destination.  The best thing about travelling by the road is that you have the best option in feeding your baby healthy foods, just don’t forget the utensils needed to make life easier on the go.

Whether going to a vacation spot or visiting grandmother’s house will make your baby the happiest if kept on a schedule.  Babies are in their best mood with stomach full even with unfamiliar routines in a changed environment.

Seeking for an Oasis: A Struggling but Happy Mom

Happy-mom-and-childThere was a time when I thought that motherhood was not for me, that more than anything I want to travel around the world without anyone or anything stopping me from doing what I want. But when I got married and had my first child, there was no joy comparable to what I felt that time. However, it is not always rainbows and unicorns for me.

There was a phase of my child’s life that I experienced so much stress, when they would not stop crying in the middle of the night and you have done everything to quiet them down. There was also a certain time when I panicked since the baby was sick for a long time that when I rushed to the hospital, I thought that it was already too late.

Not only does stress affect our lives with them but babies are very precious, fragile, and vulnerable little creatures. You have to be very careful when feeding them, do the food contain the right nutritional value or is it okay to try a new type of milk for the baby or if the toy is safe for them to play with.

There were times that I found myself so exhausted that I wanted to have a one day break and watch a Blake Shelton concert. One day, the heavens granted me with that one wish in the form of my husband who understood all my struggles and wanted me to take a break for a day with my girlfriends. And so I went online and clicked the little button that said check here to book our tickets, we went to the spa and salon for a makeover, enjoyed the concert extremely, went to a coffee shop afterwards to just relax and talk, and then slept peacefully for eight hours.

It was indeed an oasis for me, but I realized that even if I needed that one day vacation I still missed taking care of my baby. I would want another break in a couple of months but not soon though. Taking care of my baby is still my number one priority and joy giver.

City of McFarland, Kansas

101123_mcfarland_city_hallThe city of McFarland is a small one located in Kansas, USA. It is within the area of Wabaunsee County. Estimated population is less than 1,000. The city is part of Topeka of Kansas Metropolitan Statistical Area. Wabaunsee County has a total area of 799.80 square miles.

McFarland as a city was established way back in June 1887. It was done so by S.J. Fairfield. The city got its name from J.N. McFarland who was a judge at Topeka, Kansas and a member of the town company.

The city sees more than thirty passenger trains passing through on a daily basis. A main line going from Topeka towards Herington was built in 1887 by the Chicago, Kansas, and Nebraska Railway. This railway was unfortunately foreclosed in 1891. It was taken over afterwards by Chicago, Rock Island, and Pacific Railway; the company which also closed down in 1980. From then, the railway was known as Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas Railroad. Two merges will take place, one with Missouri Pacific Railroad in 1988 and one with Union Pacific Railroad, recently in 1997. The railroad is recognized today as “Rock Island”.

McFarland has humid and hot summers while winters are often mild to cool. The city is generally categorized as of humid and subtropical climate. Population is very small. From a 224 population in 1990 to a 256 residents population in 2010, the city remains quite small. Less than 200 households are found in the cities. Racial composition is 95% white and 5% mix of Native American and other races.

McFarland may be a small town but the beautiful Mill Creek Valley where it’s located nearby is very picturesque. There is something serene about Flint hills in Wabaunsee. The city is also strategically located. It’s just near Topeka, Junction City, Manhattan, Fort Riley, as well as Council Grove. Interstate 70 is also just a mile away. Parks and ball fields are also located nearby.

Expect a community that is warm and friendly. Families planning to stay for an extended period of time will have no problems about their children’s schooling as a number of good schools are located in the vicinity. Land is very affordable and taxes are quite low.

The city is greatly appealing due to the abundance of natural surroundings and various vistas. Small town living is naturally safe and quiet and appeals much to people who are just tired of the noisy and stressful life of big city residence.

Wabaunsee County is less than 10,000 in population. Small towns around it are 13 in number. The place is rich in history. Kansas of old was a place inhabited by most Native Americans. The US secured the area only in 1803 as part of its purchase of Louisiana. Established as Kansas Territory in 1854, the county was officially declared on March 25, 1859. The name Wabaunsee means ‘dawn of day’, named after a chief of the Potawatomi Indians.

The first church built in the county was Wabaunsee Church of Christ in June 1857. The first railroad built was Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe in 1880. Wabaunsee and nearby places to McFarland have a number of interesting places to show:  Pierce Creek Ranch (Paxico), Beecher Bible and Rifle Church (Wabaunsee), Old Stone Church (Maple Hill) and Snokomo School (Paxico).

Beecher Bible and Rifle Church was established by the Beecher Colony in 1854. Free-staters shipped rifles to the church via boxes declared as bible contents.  Captain William Mitchell, Jr.  joined the Beecher Bible and Rifle Colony in its free-sate efforts, settling with them in Wabaunsee. In 1868, Captain William was elected to the state legislature.

Topeka, the capital city of Kansas is well recognized for the US Supreme Court case Brown vs. Board of Education of Topeka that declared public school segregation according to race as unconstitutional. Three US Navy ships bear the name USS Topeka in honor of the site.

The area is richly filled with traces of past history. Topeka in the 1860’s was a commercial area populated by traders and travelers. In 1862, work began on the construction of Kansas State Capitol. Kansas limestone was used for the building that took thirty-seven years to complete. A Governor’s Mansion was built in 1887, which was then replaced by Cedar Crest in 1963.

Lincoln College (established in 1865) is also found in the area, though it is now called Washburn University. The university is co-ed, a public school that offers both undergraduate and graduate courses. Professional programs in business and law are also offered. Faculty members number to over 500 and students range from 1,500 and above yearly.

Another school, Monroe Elementary, is also located within the area. It is a racially segregated school that was cited in the historic case that declared unconstitutionality of racial segregation in public schools.  In the early 1990’s, the Brown Foundation worked with Kansas Congressional delegation place in efforts of putting up The National Historic Site. It contains a great number of historical interpretive exhibits and the site was opened by former President Bush in May of 2004.

A new airport and convention center was conceptualized from the 1980’s. West Ridge Mall was built in 1988 as a replacement to White Lakes Mall that opened in 1964. Heartland Park Topeka opened in 1989 allowing Topeka to be known as a motorsports mecca. Topeka Performing Arts was opened by 1991.

The Kansas River runs west to east and skyline is just awesome at night. Apartments and condominiums have been in continuous development. Façade, landscape, and streetscape improvements are continually being made. The State Capitol is on an eight year renovation project worth close to $300 million. A trip to the other side of the river will lead you to Great Overland Station which boasts of excellent railroad archtecture, classic in all aspects.

Other points of interest around the locality are: Bethel Bible College, the home of Rev. Charles Sheldon; The First Presbyterian Church, a church fully decorated with Tiffany stained glass; the oldest Baha’i community in Kansas; Westboro Baptist Church, a controversial church community; the Capitol Building; Kansas Children’s Discovery Center; Reinisch Rose Garden and Doran Rock Garden; Topeka Zoo which is the first US Zoo that has indoor rain forest; and a lot more.

Deciding to Adopt a Pet

adopt_me1I am quite sure that your family has pleaded you to adopt a pet but you are having qualms especially if you have a baby at home. I also had that same problem years ago and I was glad that we did it. We may have issues regarding our family’s health and safety, I will not be tackling the scientific part of owning a pet though.

First of all, always consider your family members when selecting a pet. Though the adults are the primary caretaker, always give small responsibilities to the children as this will serve as life lessons to them. So, before going to the pound (I always believed in adopting not shopping for a dog) discuss the weight of the responsibility and commitment with your family. They are nice surprise gifts to the children but it is always better to have an expressed commitment from them, make sure that they do not lose focus after a week or so. These pets will be with the family for 5-10 years. That is 5-10 years of food, play, and love.

Ask yourselves necessary questions like: how much will a pet cost, everybody’s role in taking care of the pet, the medical issues the pet may encounter, how the pet will be cared for during family vacations, allergic reactions to the pet and so on. Do research on topics, you may know everything about pets because you had them when you were 10 years old but there are new discoveries each day and there are tips that you might not have encountered. Look for sites that could help you in grooming them like is better to adopt or buy puppies from private owners who have cared for their pets like a family rather than those in pet stores who get them from puppy mills. They might have issues because of poor breeding practice. Also check for the best food for them like looking into or other sites discussing food.

A pet has made my kids more social and it also became a part of our family. They have helped solved many family crisis and made our relationship with each other better. Owning a pet has been the best decision so far. Just make sure that everyone is ready for it and the commitment will stay.

Lowering the Fussiness Level

babyFor first time parents, having a baby can be quite daunting, especially if you live far from your own parents and have no one to ask when the baby is fussing. Thankfully, the Internet is always ready to help. Here are some reasons why babies are crying.

When Fussiness is Normal

There is a certain phase when babies are regularly fussy, whether you breastfeed them or not. Sometimes this occurs during the late afternoon or evening, some parents can even guess when the baby will fuss again. This starts at 2-3 weeks and will end during the baby’s 3rd to 4th months. So if your baby is fussing at regular intervals, do not overthink, just let them be. If your baby is fussing and it’s not at regular times, then it’s the time to worry.

Oversupply Causes Fussiness

When your baby receives too much milk or the opposite. They also feel overtiredness, overstimulation, discomfort, loneliness, etc. that could cause their fussiness. Other physical causes are diaper rash, thrush, sensitivity to food, and nipple confusion.

Simple Ways to Comfort the Baby

Change their diapers as often as you can because overdue diapers may cause pain especially for female babies. Do not forget to burp your baby once you are done nursing. Massaging or rubbing your baby’s back can also soothe and calm them, another good exercise when your baby starts to fuss. Reduce the stimulation of senses, make sure that the swaddle is right and the baby does not move too much, dim your lights and lower the volume.

Spoiling the Baby

Do not be afraid of spoiling the baby by holding it too much or giving them milk. The opposite is the effect; giving the baby’s needs would lead to less insecurity and the babies cry less. Needing their mothers is the same as their need for food so once you give them what you need they are easily contented.

Do Away With Stress

Female bodies have also a mechanism that they would feel uncomfortable when the baby cries. So once in awhile, have time for yourself and go out with friends as not to be overloaded with fussiness. Too much time with dealing with your baby might cause to harbor dislike. So go and check here for Bruno Mars’ next concert date to see with your girl friends. It is a fun and good way to de-stress.

Five Fun Things To Do with a New Born Baby

newborn-baby-oxcgn-3We all know we can’t expect a lot of interaction from a new born baby. But that doesn’t mean playing with them isn’t important. Here is a list of five fun things to do with your baby.

Show and Tell Game

Most of your playtime with the baby will be spent showing them stuff. Any object that won’t poison, electrocute, or hurt them is a fair game. Keep a little pile of objects beside you and sit with your baby. Show it to them one by one.

Dance with him/her

When babies get grumpy, and you did almost everything to calm them, nothing works as well as dancing with them. Put on some music, choose a song that they like and either put them in the sling or hold them in your arms. First do soft swaying.  If it works stay with it or if it doesn’t, swing her up and down. When your arms get tired, put your baby down and keep dancing. Silly exaggerated movements like shaking your butt are particularly funny to babies. Just don’t forget to close the curtains so the neighbors won’t see your silly dance moves.

Read them a book.

Don’t expect babies to really “get” books at this age. You’ll just know they’re enjoying them by their way of getting still and watchful.  Babies love looking at books and cuddling close to you, but they normally don’t care about the story itself.

The Diva Within

You may have terrible voice but your kid doesn’t know. Your baby may love anything you sing, but you should know some classics.  Most babies like any song with movements — “Itsy Bitsy Spider”, “Row, Row, Row Your Boat,” “The Wheels on the Bus,” and “Patty-Cake,” are examples. You may feel silly at first, but as your infant gets into it, so will you.

Journey Into Mommy’s Closet

Dig into your closet and show your baby your brilliant plaid skirt, cashmere sweater, and your favorite jeans. Run soft or silky fabrics over their face, hands, and feet. In a few months, your baby will want to run their hands over anything beaded, embroidered, or embellished. You can even try putting on Katy Perry Costumes on her. But for now, she may just be content gazing in wonder.

Helping Your Kids Become Smarter

When it comes to my children, I don’t believe that they can no longer be smarter; that the capacities of their minds are just as they were born. To tell you the truth, I know they can be smarter when you let them explore other things rather than just letting them grasp what’s in their surroundings (read: their room).

Guide Their Television Experience

Sure, you shouldn’t let them watch shows which shouldn’t be seen by kids; but there are lots of channels where they’ll see what life has to offer. If you have time, spend time with them while watching National Geographic Channel or Discovery Channel. There, they’ll be able to learn about the environment, animals, and what actually happens in the world. It’s okay even if they do not understand much about the show. What is important is that they will become accustomed to those shows sooner or later. You might also want to bring them to a comedy show. There, your kids will be faced with new surroundings and different people. For that, get your tickets at But of course, watch with them, as there should always be parental guidance.

Let Them Explore

I have heard other people say that kids shouldn’t be brought to other countries while they’re still young because it’s just useless. They say it’s useless because it’s very costly and the kids wouldn’t even remember it once they grow up. For me, I prefer bringing my children to different places because I want them to be able to explore at a very young age. I actually call myself lucky because airlines with promos exist. With that, I am able to book cheap flights without having to worry much. I love how this site has especially helped me in dealing with my family’s trips. As a result, I know that my kids learn from the trips at a very young age.

Only Give Healthy Food

Just like any other parent should do, you should always give your kids vitamins and proper medication when they’re sick. To make them healthier, make sure you also give them the right amount of healthy food – fruits, vegetables, milk, water, and meat. These will provide them the energy they need for the day. With just this simple step, you are already helping your children become smarter!

Also, if you’re willing to go the extra mile (well of course you are!), allow them to choose the food they want at least once a week so they do not feel deprived.

Nanny Cams are a Mom’s Best Friend

I’ve always been a junkie for live performances of my favorite artists. I always check here for tour schedules of my favorite country singer Justin Moore. So when I found out that he’s bound to a city near mine, I nearly jumped out of my seat.

I knew I had to go, but there’s no way I was going to leave my baby alone and unguarded with her nanny. I asked around my friends and they suggested that I buy a nanny cam.

What’s a Nanny Cam?

It’s simply a surveillance camera disguised as an ordinary-looking home appliance or furniture. For example, there are hidden cameras installed in wall clocks, alarm clocks, Wi-Fi routers, tissue boxes, iPod docks, teddy bears and many more. Place it strategically inside your home so you can see later how your nanny treated your baby.

Nanny Cams with Built-in DVR

For maximum convenience, I suggest you go for spy cams with built-in DVR. This means that the camera can record the footage without wire connections or any other separate installation. It has a physical memory or you can use a micro SD card to store the recorded footage.

There are also cameras with built-in transmitters that automatically transmit the footage to a separate recording device.

They’re Cheap, Too

You don’t have to worry about breaking your budget. There are surprisingly cheap hidden cameras out there, some starting at as low as $5.50. This particular camera is a tiny DV camera that can record high quality videos. It’s so tiny you can hide it anywhere you want. Place it among stuffed toys, pillows, furniture, anywhere.

In my case, I bought a mini alarm clock hidden camera because it had all the features I wanted. It had built-in DVR, can take colored 640×480 videos, time-stamp, can take pictures, a USB port, a 32GB memory capacity and a micro SD card slot, and a built-in lithium battery. It looks sleek too so it went well with my home’s interior design.

Even though I trusted my nanny, getting a spy cam gave me peace of mind as I went out to have fun. It’s a good investment you should try too.
